It’s less than two weeks until Toronto goes star crazy and among the madness, top modeling agencies go head to head to secure bookings to staff some of the town’s hottest parties. The 38th Annual Toronto International Film Festival runs Sept. 5 through Sept. 15. The first round of movie announcements has been made for this year’s TIFF and 40 world premieres are on the list.
Where exactly are the A-listers going to party over these ten days? Just a few honourable mentions include the Thompson Hotel, Ritz Carlton, SoHo, Nikki Beach, One at Hazelton, Shangri-La and even the Trump, Drake & Intercontinental Hotels. Of course the heart of the festival if the TIFF Bell Lightbox. Toronto has an extended liquor license until 4am – which most venues eagerly take advantage of.
So where do top modeling agencies fit into the mix? For many brands and companies, festivals like TIFF provide a unique opportunity to showcase their offering with all the razzle-dazzle of tinsel town. Most of these parties will have gorgeous and glamorous models welcoming guests, handling coat check, serving complimentary drinks & food and in some cases dedicated to specific celebs to take care of them all evening long. More important than their look, is their poise and professionalism while hob-knobbing and catering to Hollywood’s hottest stars and starlets.
When celebs are in town, it’s not only top modeling agencies, but also the event planners who go all out.
One of the coolest TIFF parties we’ve ever seen was at Holt Renfrew on Bloor St. VIP guests lined a “pink carpet” (vs. the traditional red) and got to enjoy various spectacles in the store windows including David & Victoria Beckham look-a-like models duking it out in a pillow fight. There were gifting rooms handing out Bobby Brown makeup, Polaroid girls handing out branded pics and giving them to guests to keep as a souvenir of their night – not to mention one entire room dedicated to candy, free food/drinks and amazing music! Just a few of the celebrity sightings including Wyclef Jean, Cuba Gooding Junior and Heather Graham. Needless to say, an event to go down in the books.
Looking ahead to this year, 2013 marks the 25th anniversary of Midnight Madness, one of the most ghoulishly popular programs in the fest, and on July 29, just a minute before midnight, TIFF Bell Lightbox will offer a special free showing of All The Boys Love Mandy Lane — just to get the horror ball rolling. “The Fifth Estate: will kick off the opening night gala screening and closes with “The Life of Crime”.
One of the biggest parties planned for Sat., Sept. 7 to celebrate India’s 100 Years in Film with a fundraiser at the Four Seasons for a cool $25,000 per table.
In addition to celebrities and industry insiders, TIFF is expected to attract close to half a million attendees to Toronto this year and millions of tourist dollars. As mentioned above, the festival runs September 5 – 15 this year. For a full film list and ticket info.
