Metropolis at Metrotown hosted a very special mall activation, 1600 Pandas World Tour. This unique one-of-a-kind exhibit is to promote wildlife conservation and to bring awareness on the panda conservation efforts.
About the Event: The 1600 Pandas World Tour was first launched in 2008 by the WWF and acclaimed French artist Paulo Grangeon, who handcrafted 1,600 paper machepandas— the number of living pandas left in the wild at that time — with recycled materials. The updated exhibit titled “1600 Pandas+” refers not only to the 17% increase in the population of wild giant pandas to over 1,800 in the past decade, but also to increase public awareness of panda conservation, as an always symbolic reminder of wildlife sustainability. Having been through France, the Netherlands, Italy, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, and nearly 100 exhibitions around the world, the pandas have now arrived in North America for its very first time at Metropolis at Metrotown!
During the mall activation, shoppers had the chance to reserve and adopt one of the paper mache pandas on display. Two Tigris brand ambassadors hosted the Adoption Kiosk in the Grand Court to manage pick up and distribute pandas to shoppers. Each panda comes with an adoption certificate and carrying box. Below are a few testimonials:
- “I’ve been waiting all day to come pick up my panda!”
- “My girlfriend is going to love it!”

- “I’m so happy I get to bring one home!”
