Top Tips to Prepare for Your Upcoming Fitness Shows

Are you Considering Entering Any Fitness Shows this Year?

New Years resolutions have come and gone – but if you are working on your health goals, competing in fitness shows could be a great way to stay motivated all year long. Standing on stage in your swimsuit may seem like a daunting task, but if you’re well prepared, mentally and physically, you’d be amazed at what you can accomplish. Here are some tips to help you get started on your fitness journey. Read on!

DIET :: I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but we’ll say it again. Diet is everything!! Ok, so maybe not everything πŸ˜‰ But when it comes to fitness shows, diet is at least 80-90% of the battle. So, what do you need to do to get your diet on track?

First off, we would recommend speaking to a nutritionist. Before you make any major changes in your lifestyle, it’s important to ensure you are improving your health and not in fact making yourself sick. Competitors in fitness shows are supposed to be the epitome of health, however you need to make sure you are eating portion controlled balanced meals consistently, a lot of water and getting your zzz’s.

Every body will react differently, but most people preparing for fitness shows follow the rule of thirds. Low fat protein, leafy green vegetables and the right carbs. An example of this could be an omelet with spinach for breakfast, a protein shake mid-morning, a chicken breast with whole grain rice and a side salad for lunch, a calorie protein bar mid-afternoon and fish, yams and asparagus (or other green veg) for dinner. AND LOTS OF WATER!!! Potentially as much as 2-3L per day.

You know we are generalizing, but you get the hint. And aside from knowing what to eat, when you’re preparing for fitness shows, the key is just that. Preparing. If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail.

TRAINING :: Just like your diet, there is no one size fits all solution. We would recommend working with a coach or trainer to make sure you’re on track for your fitness goals. Does your upper body need some definition? Or perhaps you want to beef up your scrawny legs?

Whatever your goals are, you will need a fitness plan including weight training at least 4-5 times per week along with cardio. But what exercises and how much cardio will change over the course of your training and as you near the date of your fitness shows, this will continue to change. Support from a professional will help you immensely in these areas. We really can’t stress that enough. Fitness shows are just like any other sport.

STAGE PRESENTATION ::Β How are we feeling so far? Once you have your diet and training locked down, you need to think about appearing in the fitness shows themself. No matter how great you look and feel, you need to make sure you’re completely polished.

For females, complete hair and makeup along with pro-tan, moisturizer and a custom made suit is a must. And don’t forget to smile!! When you’re on stage, you want to look like you want to be there and even the most beautiful girl could fail in her goals if she forgets to smile.

And men. We haven’t forgotten about you. You have it alot easier than the females… You only need to worry more about hair removal and pro-tan for your fitness shows. Lucky you!

The lights on stage will wash out any colour you have. There are smart tanning solutions that won’t make you look orange or streaky. We have worked with a wonderful company called Monaco SunΒ , a company committed to providing a flawless, sun-kissed, natural bronzed glow to every client, no matter their skin colour or type. We highly recommend them when preparing for your fitness shows.Β

Miss & Mr. CHIN – the Longest Running Fitness Shows in Canadian History

Heading into the 48th annual year, the Miss & Mr CHIN fitness shows are one of the most unique competitions the industry has to offer. Created in 1966, Miss CHIN put the CHIN Picnic on the map. The three day festival attracts over 250,000 people annually – and our fitness shows are the headlining entertainment.

So what makes Miss & Mr. CHIN different from other fitness shows?

Aside from the amazing prizes, valued at over $5,000 including a trip to the Caribbean for the winners, the competition runs over 5-6 weeks vs. one day only. The fitness shows yield media exposure in the Toronto Sun and City TV (not to mention dozens of other smaller outlets) and offers great networking opportunities. One of our past Miss CHIN winners was even offered a spot on her own real estate reality TV show after being scouted through the competition. How amazing is that?

Since the contestants spend so much time together, the experience in itself is truly unique and a testament to embracing the vibrant multicultural community in Toronto. If you’re thinking of competing in any fitness shows this year, Miss & Mr CHIN is an excellent segway into the industry. Even if you’re a seasoned competitor, you never know where these fitness shows could take you either.
