Preparing for a Promotional Modeling Event :: Make-Up Tips Every Event Staff Should Know!

Have you been hired for a promotional modeling event? Looking for the perfect tutorial on how to prepare yourself for the upcoming promo? As the summer season begins, so does the request for presentable, outgoing promotional models with a great brand image.  Take a few minutest to review the tips below so the next time you’ve been booked for a promotional modeling event, getting ready will be as easy as 1-2-3.

What Type of Promotional Modeling Event are you Booked for?

Are you hostessing the opening of a venue or working a golf tournament during the day? The first item of business is to understand the environment you will be working in, so you know how much (or little) make-up to put on.

If you’re working outside, we would recommend that you start off with a  base foundation that contains an SPF. This will ensure that your face is not only protected, but has an even complexion as well. If you’re working indoors, any foundation will do. Depending on the length of your shift, you may want to prep your face with a primer to ensure the longevity of the make-up application. Start with a nickle size amount, and it you require additional coverage, you can add more foundation as required. Once completed, you can cover any blemishes or under eye circles that need to be concealed.

Now that the base coat has been applied to the face, you can apply your eye shadow, liner and mascara. Ideally you will want to ensure that you have 3 tones of eye shadow: light, medium and dark. Select the lightest color and apply the eye shadow over the entire lid from the mobile lid (also known as the eye lid) right up to the brow bone. From there, you will take the medium color and apply it to the mobile lid only. The last step for eye shadow is to take the darkest color and apply it to the eye crease – starting at the outer corner of the eye you will work towards the pupil (staying in the crease area).

Depending on your eye shape, you may want to apply the crease color higher or lower on the eye. If you have deep-set eyes, you should always put the crease higher so it allows your eyes to pop. Feel free to dab the lightest color on the brow bone and in the inner corner of the eye. Using an eyebrow pencil or matte eye shadow, color in your eyebrows lightly to complete the look for your promotional modeling event.

Again, depending on the event venue or location, the type of eyeliner and mascara you wear may be different. For instance, if you are going to be working outside for an extended period of time, we would highly recommend that you use a gel liner instead of pencil. Gel liner stays put and doesn’t smudge, while pencil liner (even if it’s waterproof) has a tendency to fade throughout the day. Likewise, if you’re working an outdoor promotional modelling event, you may want to consider wearing a waterproof mascara. Should the inevitable happen, and it decides to rain, at lease you have the reassurance that your eye lashes will not be affected.

Completing the Look :: Adding the Finishing Touches for your Promotional Modeling Event.

A lot of women think that they need to match their lipstick to the color of what they are wearing. This is actually incorrect. When preparing for a promotional modeling event,  fashion show, special event or even a job interview, you should  always match the color of your lipstick AND blush to the color family (cool or warm) closest to your face. For instance, if you are wearing a dark red dress for your promotional modeling event, you do not want to wear bright pink lipstick. Instead, you would opt for a deeper color that is closer to the shade that you would be wearing up top. The same rule applies for blush: if you’re wearing a yellow outfit for the event, you may want to consider wearing neutral or peach blush along the apples of your cheeks. When in doubt, stick to neutral as it goes with just about everything.

Now that we know what colors we should be wearing on our lips, pick the lip liner that is closest to the lip stick or lip gloss you will be wearing for the promotional modeling event. Line your lips starting from the outer corners working you way into the middle. When applying the lipstick, you will work from the middle and apply the color outwards. Take you time when doing so, especially if wearing a red or any other dark color. If you do happen to make a mistake, use the concealer brush to tidy up or correct any smudging. Bring the lip color and a compact mirror along with your to the promotional modeling event to ensure you can touch up as required throughout your shift.

The final tip to applying make-up for any promotional modeling event is to ALWAYS use a brush. Brushes ensure sanitation and even application of the product that is being applied to the face, eyes or lips. If you don’t already have your own set of brushes, we’d recommend starting out with a small set and build your collection as needed. Similar to any trade, if you have the tools required for the job, it’s only a matter of practice before your perfect the art! When you look good, you feel good. And remember, these tips can be use for any style of make-up application, whether it’s for a job interview, special events, or a promotional modeling event as discussed in this blog.
